Indian Head Park, Illinois

The Board of Police and Fire Commissioners of the Village of Indian Head Park, Illinois is accepting applications for Full Time Entry Level Police Officer Applicants with the Indian Head Park Police Department.

Salary:  Starting $69,049 topping at $101,845.  The current contract was just ratified by the Union and the Village Board in April 2023.  Raises are twice a year on May 1 and hire anniversary date with passing evaluations.

The Village offers a complete benefits package:  Medical, Dental, Paid vacation & sick leave, and a $1,000 / year uniform allowance, ballistic vest provided and replaced every five years.

Pension: Through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF). 

Population: 4,000

Sworn Police Officers: 9 full-time and currently 8 part-time officers

Current shift schedules: 8 hour days with a day off rotation which changes monthly between Sun/Mon, Sat/Sun, & Fri/Sat. Always having a weekend day off and a four day weekend off during one of the change weekends. 

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the Village of Indian Head Park: 

  • Be a US citizen and/or legal permanent resident of the United States;
  • Minimum of 21 years of age and UNDER 35 years of age at the time of application, unless subject to the age exception provisions of 65 ILCS 5/10- 2.1-6(d);
  • Be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D. equivalent;
  • Possess a valid State of Illinois driver's license;
  • Possess 20/20 corrected vision;
  • Must agree to comply with all requirements of the position and have the ability to pass all examination and training requirements, including, but not limited to: background investigation, psychological, polygraph, and medical examination, etc.;
  • Covid-19 vaccine is no longer required;
  • Applicants are not obligated to disclose expunged juvenile records of adjudication, arrest, or conviction as part of the application process.

Mandatory Next Steps in the Hiring Process:

Remote On-line Written Examination Testing:  Following completion of all application materials and a review of minimum qualifications, successful applicants will be invited to participate in remote on-line written exam testing.  Testing will occur approximately once per month and you will be able to take the exam at your convenience during a 3-4 day window.  You must take the exam within the time frame you are given.  Candidates will need to have access to a laptop or desktop computer. All candidates will receive an email approximately one week prior regarding their status in the process, along with further instructions for taking the on-line written exam. NOTE: Please be sure to check your email spam folder. Many email account providers automatically send our emails there in error (i.e. Google, Yahoo, etc.).
