The Board of Police and Fire Commissioners of the Village of Crete, Illinois is accepting applications for the position of police officer with the Crete Police Department. The Crete Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that endeavors to address specific citizen concerns as well as respond to criminal activity and emergencies. Starting Salary: $64,034.88
Top Out: $87,534.72
+ Ten (10) Paid holidays annually regardless of working shift-pay based on hourly rate

Sworn Police Officers: 20 full-time and 1 part-time
All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the Village of Crete:
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen or legally authorized to work in the U.S;
- Driver’s License: Must have a valid Driver’s License and the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver’s License upon hiring;
- Age Requirements: Applicants must have attained their 21st birthday; or 20 if you have successfully completed two years of law enforcement study at an accredited college or university and be under the age of 35 years old at the last date of filing applications (8/22/2025) unless they have been certified and employed as a full-time law enforcement officer for a municipality in the United States or are otherwise exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1;
- Education: Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED);
- Character: Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character;
- Testing: Must be able to participate and successfully complete all stages of the testing process;
- Residency: No Residency Requirements;
- P.O.W.E.R Card: Must possess a valid P.O.W.E.R. Card issued within the last 12 months at the time of application;
- Pay a $45.00 non-refundable application processing fee.
A maximum of five (5) preference points will be awarded as determined by the Village of Crete for one of the following:
- Military: Persons who were engaged in the military or naval service of the United States for at least one year, and were honorably discharged, - OR - who are now, or may hereafter be on inactive or reserve duty in such military or naval service. A copy of Form DD-214 or equivalent proof of current military service must be submitted with application to qualify (5 points).
- OR -
- Education: Persons who have successfully obtained an Associate's Degree in the field of law enforcement or criminal justice - OR - a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Copy of unofficial transcripts must be submitted with application to qualify (5 points).
Submission of Application:
Applications MUST be submitted online by Friday, August 22, 2025 at 4:00 PM (CST). Faxed, e-mailed, mailed or dropped off applications will NOT be accepted. Applications submitted after the deadline will NOT be accepted. Only one application per person, per testing cycle will be accepted.
Mandatory Next Steps in the Hiring Process:
Remote On-Line Written Examination Testing Following completion of all application materials and review of minimum qualifications, applicants will be invited to participate in remote on-line written exam testing available from 9:00 AM on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 through 4:00 PM on Friday, September 5, 2025. The test will only be available during this time period. Candidates will need to have access to a laptop or desktop computer. All candidates will receive an email approximately one week prior regarding their status in the process. Further instructions for taking the on-line written exam will also be provided the day prior to the examination date. NOTE: Please be sure to check your email spam folder. Many email account providers automatically send our emails there in error (i.e. Google, Yahoo, etc.).
