The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners of the Village of Bartlett, Illinois is accepting applications for the position of police officer with the Bartlett Police Department
Salary: $89,597 - $126,918 (May 1, 2026 – April 30, 2027)

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the Village of Bartlett
- Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of the application as permitted by 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6.
- Every applicant must be of good moral character, and physically and psychologically able to perform the essential job functions of the applied-for position, with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Applicants must possess a high school diploma or equivalent at the time of application.
- Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license at the time of hire.
- Applicants must be at least 21 years of age at the time of their original appointment and have not reached their 35th birthday as of the last date that applications are due. Applicants will be exempt from the age-35 hiring requirement as permitted by 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-6(a) & (d) and 65 ILCS 5/10-2.1-14, as those statutory Sections may be amended from time to time.
- Applicants must be legally capable of obtaining an Illinois Firearm Owners Identification (FOID) card.
- No residency requirement.
- Previous Bartlett Police Department applicants are eligible to re-apply.
- Visible tattoos are permitted except on the face (including front of ears), scalp, and throat. Tattoos that are prejudicial to good order and discipline, or that are of a nature to bring discredit upon law enforcement, are prohibited. Examples include, but are not limited to, tattoos that are drug-related, gang-related, extremist, obscene or indecent, sexist, or racist. Prospective employees shall provide information on all of their tattoos to include the location and the nature of the tattoos. The Chief of Police or his/her designee will make the final determination, in accordance with Department policy, as to whether an applicant’s tattoo(s) complies with Department policy. Restrictions are also in place for intentional body mutilation that is a deviation from normal anatomical features and is not medically required.

A maximum of 5 Preference Points will be awarded as determined by the Village of Bartlett for one the following:
Military Experience: Persons who were engaged in the military or naval service of the United States for at least one year, and were honorably discharged. DD-214 must be submitted with application to qualify.
College Degree: Candidates must have successfully obtained an Associate’s Degree in the field of law enforcement or criminal justice; or a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Transcripts (official preferred) or copy of diploma must be submitted with application to qualify. Official transcripts will be required at the Background Investigation stage.
In addition to the 5 total points allowed above, candidates who successfully complete the Bartlett Police Department’s internship program or have completed probation and are currently serving in good standing as a civilian member of the Bartlett Police Department (full or part time) may request two (2) additional preference points. Proof of successful completion of the internship program, or proof of completion of a probationary period in good standing as a civilian department member shall accompany the claim for preference points. The addition of these preference points will be recommended by the Chief of Police or designee and approved by the Board.

- Applications MUST be submitted online by Friday, October 16, 2026 at 4:00 PM (CST). Faxed, e-mailed, mailed or dropped off applications will NOT be accepted.
- Applications submitted after the deadline will NOT be accepted. Only one application per person, per testing cycle will be accepted.
- Previous Bartlett Police Department applicants are eligible to re-apply.
Mandatory On-line Written Examination Testing: Following completion of all application materials and review of minimum qualifications, successful applicants will be invited to participate in remote on-line written exam testing available between Tuesday, November 3, 2026 at 9:00 AM and Thursday, November 5, 2026 at 4:00 PM. Candidates will need to have access to a laptop or desktop computer. All candidates will receive an email approximately one week prior regarding their status in the process, along with further instructions for taking the on-line written exam. NOTE: Please be sure to check your email spam folder. Many email account providers automatically send our emails there in error (i.e. Google, Yahoo, etc.).
